Navigation Bar Problem

Hey, on my normal desktop computer the navigation works fine in all scales. For some reason on my Acer laptop w/HD screen the logo area seems to extend into the menu area. Thus my "About Us" link (the first one on the left) is overrode by the logo link which goes to the homepage. See photo.

Perhaps this has to do with the "Retina Display" options and it think it's a logo twice as big. How to fix?

    Hi there,

For the retina logo option the logo need to be twice as big as the default logo. If you default logo is also uploaded in the retina option this will mostly cause the issue you described.

I just checked your website on iMac and Acer laptop but didn't notice the issue from your screenshot? Is the issue already solved? (please see attachment)

    Best regards,

Hey, well it is still happening on my Acer laptop. It has an HD screen (1920x1080, even though it's only 14"). When I view the logo details it is using the double-side version (577x110). The standard is 289x55. Any ideas?

    Hi there,

Is it possible I can take a look myself in the theme customizer to try some things?

Please click the 'private' toggle if you're sending the credentials.

    Thank you

Hey Barry. Thanks for fixing the latest blog post list widget.

The logo/navigation overlap issue still persists. I deleted cache and hard refreshed in FireFox but still happening. It is fine in Chrome and Edge on same computer. So is seemingly only a FireFox issue on this computer. See new screenshot.

As for the default no-sidebar, I can live with. The file could still be useful though, how often are theme updates coming out? I only worry about other people posting and not realizing to click it.

    Hi there,

    You're welcome.

I need to investigate some more as it seem I can't replicate this issue. Already checked it in multiple browsers on OS Sierra and Windows. I will need to do some testing on emulators to see if I can find the issue. One question on this; If you click the 'remove' button of the retina logo option and save the settings is the issue still there?

You will find the setting field file in the attachment below. The existing file in the theme folder can be found inside the /inc folder. On average the theme is updated around every 2 months. Of course when it is really necessary to bring out an update (to keep the theme compatible with WordPress, or outdated bundled plugins) we will do this sooner.

Yeah works just fine when the retina logo is not uploaded. I don't have an iPad to really tell the difference on a retina device. Looks fine on my Acer without the retina one.

And uploaded the sidebar-right file, works good, thanks for that.

    Hi there,

I just tested it with a emulator on iPad Air. An emulator is not really a 100% good comparison but it's fine for testing this.

Please see the attachments. As you can see your theme logo is still quite sharp without the retina logo uploaded. I also picked a random WordPress theme without a retina logo and that one is much more blurred.

I can fix the logo overlay issue for the retina logo (from your 1st screenshot) with some CSS by defining as custom width to the logo element. But I don't know how that will turn out.

Good to hear the file works, you're welcome.

    Best regards,
    Barry

Yeah I think it looks fine. If we ever have a customer complain about the quality of our logo on their iPad retina display I will let you know.

    Hi there,

    Yes, please do.

Is it ok if I login again to try the CSS method? Probably that will fix the issue.

Sure, I think you still have credentials.

FYI last post was said sarcastically (sorry, hard to tell). But you can try to fix. I'd only actually be worried about if it displayed half-size or somehow screwed things up on some devices by not having the retina-version uploaded.

The Retina logo is uploaded. I added a max size with CSS for the logo container so in fact it should be fixed now. Maybe you need to ctrl + f5 in Firefox to see the changes.

The custom CSS I added will add a max width to the logo container (not the actual logo image). The logo container should always have the same width on normal and retina screens as the script behind the retina logo option will compress the image to the same size as the default one. I'm quite sure this won't screw the logo up because it don't adjust the actual logo.

Please let me know if it is working correctly on your side.

Thanks Barry, it seems to be working perfectly.

Only desire left is that one could upload photos and have them auto-cropped to the various sizes and/or proportions that the theme uses (slider size, 850x450, and sidebar size). I know this isn't normally a Wordpress strength. I've used Drupal and it does it well. Is there a plugin or anything that could facilitate this?  Mostly it's a pain to upload a version at Slider proportion, then one for a post feature, and different for service gallery. Any automation would be great.

    Great! You're welcome.

If images are uploaded that are larger than the defined image sizes they will be automatically cropped. Downside of this WordPress function is that the images need to be uploaded in the same orientation. If landscape and portrait orientation are uploaded to let say the Featured Image the output sizes will be different.

Well I see that images are shrunk for home page display. But it is still using the original source images, mostly. So even if they are displayed small it could be loading a 3000x jpg, which is slow. I notice that for the QT Feature Page widget (on front page at top) and the Front page news widget (bottom), and the general posts/blog page display too. The only one on the front page that seems to source a scaled version is the Installation feature page near top. It uses "install-tree-patteson-360x240.jpg". The rest are original source. www.urbaneatin.com

Similar on the posts/blog page. The Blueprint law photo is still original (4,128px × 3,096px (scaled to 407px × 305px)). A few others are scaled.

So that seems a bit fishy. Will images have scaled version generated at any point? Will it only apply to newly uploaded photos? Does it only use original source images and scale em down? Can the Feature Image allow one to use a smaller scale version?

This would be a separate ticket perhaps.

    Hi there,

Unfortunately this is a common issue with WordPress. Images from that size 2000px and above in width will mostly not be resized. If your images are under 2000 px in width it won't give any issues. Like you already said this is a very weak function of WordPress.

A fast way to bulk resize images is to use this website: https://bulkresizephotos.com/
